ATS 606: Introduction to Climate (Spring 2028)
An introductory graduate-level course exploring the physical climate system and interactions among the atmosphere, oceans, land surface, and vegetation. Topics include exchanges of energy, water, and momentum; the global energy and water cycles; climate variability and feedbacks; ocean and land-surface processes; paleoclimate; and the observed characteristics of Earth’s climate system.
ATS 753: Global Hydrologic Cycle (Spring 2029)
An advanced graduate-level course examining the hydrologic cycle, with emphasis on moisture transport and exchange between the atmosphere and land surface, water budgets of key meteorological phenomena, and the distribution of atmospheric water across space and time. Topics include soil moisture dynamics, satellite remote sensing, and the use of observations, models, and data analysis tools to study the hydrologic cycle.
ATS 780: Fundamentals of Climate Change (Fall 2027)
An advanced graduate-level course exploring climate change through physical theory, emphasizing mechanistic understanding and theoretical frameworks. Topics include indicators of climate change, land-ocean warming and drying contrasts, polar amplification, hydrological cycle paradigms, and responses of oceanic and atmospheric circulation to global warming, with discussion of current climate change research questions.
